Day 25: Owain Prosser, for Sufficiently Advanced

Once again I'm a bit behind. Today I'm starting on a new series of characters taking part in a form of serialized entertainment for a posthuman audience.
In the posthuman, post-scarcity civilization called the Tivoli Aggregate, novelty is worth more than gold. Actually gold is just another transition metal, but novelty lifts the spirits to new heights. A novelty on the verge of becoming a tradition isThe Detectives, a flash mob murder procedural happening without warning. An Aggregate persona will have ‘died’, and the titular detectives arrive on the scene. Members from other civilizations are invited to be detectives, lending the event some authenticity (“encounter entities from other polities and see their genuine values and reactions in REAL TIME!”)
Let us meet the current stars of the Detectives bullpen. 

Owain Prosser is from the Agrarian-Socialist Family of Ysbaddaden IV. This civilization believes in the uplifting quality of manual labor, the revolution as a continuous process, and the polity members as family. The ideals will not infrequently be used as a social weapon, in the form of ‘genuine concern interventions’ and ‘corrective criticism gatherings’, but by-and-large standards of living and equality have increased on Ysbaddaden IV. 
Owain is a goat-farmer and police inspector. He was chosen by his local peers, hopefully due to confidence in him. Owain isn’t naive though. He realizes that he was chosen because he was just controversial enough. Owain questions the Family’s processes, but not the foundational values. In a society without private property, Owain deals mostly with political dissidents, crowd control, and crimes of passion. Usually his presence and a frank conversation is enough, but he has had to call corrective criticism gatherings on nine occasions. Twice they resulted in the elimination of the dissident. That’s a euphemism for hanging. Owain didn’t like it one bit. 

Owain has a wife and three daughters, and he knows in his heart of hearts that they’re infinitely more important, the Family’s values be damned. 

The Central Gathering volunteered Owain for a role in The Detective. A ‘cultural exchange’ they call it. Owain thinks that stark raving bonkers would be more correct. These beings, this Aggregate has technology that is completely beyond his understanding. They create bespoke bodies or live entirely without one. A person might be a score of people (or THINGS!), created to explore some philosophical or frivolous point. Yet they’re craving this reactionary and bourgeois entertainment like children. It boggles the mind. Heaven knows what the Family gets out of this. 

With his genuine sighs, arm-folding and folksy exasperation, Owain has become an audience favorite. One time a cloud of self-perpetuating confetti followed him around for a week.

This is a hack of TROIKA! (and Fighting Fantasy in general). You play the part of a creature serving an evil overlord. The war against the Forces of good isn’t going as planned, and it may be time for some hard decisions. Do you stay and fight or desert? Do you try to switch sides (as if the Forces of Good would ever trust or shelter you)? Or do you maybe have some crazy scheme which might turn the tide in your favor, and visit doom upon the armies of elves, dwarves, humans and warrior angels. Magick of the Moon Priestess
