Day 09: Lysanthir Eschenhörn, Elf Fencer and "Officer"
Elves are the old rules of this world, and they come off as somewhat patrician and casually condescending to others.
An elf is functionally immortal, unless killed by violence or misfortune. This might be why they act like time is of no concern. They try on philosophies and ideas like others do clothes. Although they have an ancient and expansive empire, they usually leave most of the day to day governing to administrators and bureaucrats, while they pursue their hobbies and adventurous follies.
Lysanthir Eschenhörn (“Lys” to their friends) is a fairly young elf, and they are deep in the throes of an obsession about military romance. They were never part of any army, and their eye-catching uniform (periwinkle with a pink sash and epaulettes) is a bespoke outfit, never issued by any military force. Lys’ prowess with a blade is quite genuine though.
Some might call Lys a fantasist, and they do live the part of the dashing officer to the hilt. Sometimes they even invent ranks and regiments for themselves, but discards them just as easily. The role is consistent, the details are not.
Actual military discipline and privation is not in Lys’ repertoire though. They prefer a campari in the shade, a duel, and a beautiful someone on their arm.
That may be why they work with Abelhanz Gray. The ‘missions’ keep them in drinks and modest luxuries, and they’re eminently capable of realigning their life narrative to make their opponents scoundrels and enemy collaborators.
