Honored council members, I have a confession to make. I have required a specialist of my own. I am talking about Astron Sweete, itinerant folklorist and explorer. Astron Sweete, gentleman vagabond. Astron Sweete, whom you banished from our capital and our ranks. I am sure this will anger some of you, but I see my first duty as being to knowledge, and my second to this expedition. The sitting council, all respect due to it, is a third. My apologies.
Astron arrived today, and he is much as You remember him. Wrinkles have added to wrinkles on his face, but he is the same clear-sighted and enthusiastic man he was ten years ago, as much as that is possible. The scar from Councilwoman Estra’s cane has faded, but not disappeared.
Astron entertained us all with myths and folklore learned from the northside Slopers. Even Mr. Shade listened without his usual interruptions.
The Slopers have long been dismissed as simple, but Astron has found much wisdom among them. What he told us showed me that we need to listen rather than talk. We have pieces of our lost civilization, but too often act as though we had the blueprint. Intellectual humility is something I, at least, need to work on.
Astron tells me that he has friends and contacts who might be able to ease the first week of our journey. He narrowly avoided both wedlock and a spear to the guts, only to make friends of both the heartbroken woman and the murderous brigands. You may not care for him, but I implore you to recognize his usefulness. He is no greater rogue than Mr. Shade.
With hope of understanding, Yllian Senestra

EDGES
1: Traveled
Wise about the ways of the world and people. You have been around and seem to know a little about everywhere and everyone. You can spend a Star to know someone from a faraway place.
2: Charming
Likable, friendly, and interesting to talk with.
3: Friends (in Dark Places)
You have contacts willing to help you, or from whom you can gain knowledge or succor. Spending a Star on Friends is like spending treasure, as it provides assistance from the Friends, or provides “prepared assistance” while you are in a Maze.
