31 Days Character Creation Challenge Day 19: ARC Doom

Antion was a midwife in the City of Brass, cracking open molds and helping the infant ifrits take their first stumbling steps. He worked for the Sultan himself, delivering the twin princesses with aplomb. Despite being respected in his field, Antion quickly realized that he would always be a mere human, a being of skim and mud, a misbegotten thing to the Lords of Smokeless Fire.

Perhaps naively, Antion thought he could change the deeply ingrained social dynamic by appealing to the princes' egos, by suggesting that a certain amount of respect towards those who served so loyally was a sign of magnanimity. A regal quality. Coming from a flesh-puppet like Antion, this was an insult to them, and he was slapped down. He still has the scars.
So, Antion ran. He helped himself to some jewelry on the way out, but he had to give it up to pay for a place on a silver barge out of the City. It turned to stop at all ports throughout the Eternal Simoom.

Since then Antion has been a freelance midwife and healer, always staying one step ahead of his former patrons. They carry grudges for centuries, and every hearth or campfire might harbor a spy or an assassin.

QUESTIONS
What makes them different from others?
Antion is allegedly the first and only male midwife the ifrit royals have ever employed. They're quite conservative in many ways.

There are three rumors about them. What are they and who believes it?
1: Antion absconded with the Sultan's newborn nephew! Many ifrit and fire spirit expats have heard this 'fact'.
2: Antion is a master spy. Being a midwife was just one of his many deep cover jobs. This one is believed by many paranoid rulers and high-level functionaries.
3: Antion is raising an army to depose all tyrants in Creation! The downtrodden pass this rumor around like a jug of sweet wine.

What was the most painful lesson your hero had to learn?
That he was just the hired help, always lowborn and insignificant.
