[Day 13] Csikaal, the End of Words

Csikaal, the End of Words

[Inspired by a piece of Evlyn Moreau's art]

Csikaal is a creature from the stars. That, at least, is the agreed-upon story. It is either a monster, robbing us of the means communication available to us, or a harbinger of the new way.

Csikaal has a spindly body mostly hidden under a colorful robe made of a light shiny fabric. The head is crab-like and seems too large for the body. Its eyes are black like beetles and situated on long segmented stalks. It moves in blurry bursts of speeds or stands still like a statue.

Csikaal has power over words. Any communication, whether verbal or written in a certain radius means whatever the creature wants it to. This includes the speech neccesary to use scrolls, shout orders, declare love or surrender. All in the hands of a creature as alien as the stars themselves.

Some people have surrendered themselves to the new way of communication. They must feed off of Csikaal’s black tears, a strong fungal infection. It attacks the mind and the tongue. The mind develops a   strong telepathic connection with Csikaal and other infected. The tongue shrivels and falls off, making room for a bluish-black organ exuding Csikaal’s tears.

The infected live in perfect harmony, extensions of Csikaal’s body and will. Or maybe they are an egalitarian society of the mind. There is only one way to find out, and it takes a leap of faith, and suppresion of the gag reflex.

Hp 11, Morale 8, chitin -d2, Bite 1d6, touch 1d4+special
Special: the touch creates confusion, blurry vision and a feeling of depersonalization. It does 2 points of damage to Presence. This will take a few hours to clear up.

It attacks with a burst of speed, and always wins initiative on the first round.

Csikaal has telepathic communication with the infected, and with other willing subjects.

The radius of its communication-breaking power is ten meters plus a further ten for each infected human.
