Day 05: Gillquayle, Spirit of Hoarders, Receiver of the Chamber

Here's a character for Realmswalker. It's an rpg (in ashcan form) that seems to draw inspiration from Magic: The Gathering and Everway.

Gillquayle is an entity about as old as thinking creatures. It is born of sapient mortals’ sense of wonder, filtered through their inherent materialism. Clouds have a silver lining. There is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The gates of Heaven are pearly. Marvels are tangible things, and wanting to possess them is not avarice but nature.

Wizards who know the halcyon lore sometimes invoke Gillquayle’s name to get their fondest desire, but it is neither god nor demon, and no one’s servant.

That being said, Gillquayle plays the part of treasure master to Grand Mammon, Archduke of Lucre. Gillfoyle sees this as somewhere between an honorary position and a hobby. It lets Mammon play the lord, but is largely a free agent. In a sense, Gillquayle is the reason Mammon exists.

When not receiving riches for Mammon, Gillquayle haunts the multiverse, looking for beautiful objects. It has no qualms about deceiving those it trades with, but will deal fairly with those it deem worthy.

Gillquayle is a tall and thin humanoid with skin like cherry wood and teeth like rose quartz. It is always dressed in the finest of clothing appropriate to the place it is currently visiting. It will sometimes seem condescending, but is genuinely interested in mortals and their desires.

Essence: The Corner of Covet and Marvel

Genus: Endless (Essentially a god, an entity that is partly outside of time)

Title: Cypher (You are a master of communication and misdirection, and know how to convey exactly what you want to people using the smallest acts. Your words can be knives or soothing balms depending on your needs, and you pick up on the slightest clues left by others. When danger arrives you’re already gone, and if you choose to take a stand it’s because you’ve planned everything out).

Anima: Emerald (represents prudence, economic materialism, and loyalty to loved ones).

Allegiance: Numinous Exchange (A network of sorcerer-lawyers who invest in religions, forge contracts of arcane power, and make a tidy profit of numen from the interest. Gilquayle is a rather passive member).

(Discipline and Greed measure how hard you’re willing to work and, conversely, how good you are at finding shortcuts to satisfy your drives. Eerie and Honor reflect detachment from or connection to mortal culture and norms).

Eerie: 3 Honor: 2

ADVENTURE ASPECTS

If Only +2: Close / External / Broad (8)

When confronted with an obstacle, Gilquayle may muse aloud and alter reality. “If only this door was unlocked”, “If only they were out of arrows”, “If only you would shut up”. The effect must be plausibly possible , and it cannot be used to help or strengthen, only to degrade, disadvantage, or disappoint.

Sense a given individual’s fondest wish, as long as it is a physical object or has a physical representation.
