31 Days Character Creation Challenge! Day 02: Into the Odd

Day two, and we're still on Into the Odd. This time we're making a mutant from the Underground. The simplicity of character creation may have lead me to go overboard with the description etc. Fair warning.

He's nice. Really!

Next to Elkvan, going clockwise, sits Grobelaar. Grobelaar is a mutant from the Underground. He was born under the outskirts of Bastion City in the overgrown area of the sub-sewers known as Geras’ Armpit. From such low beginnings, the only direction is up, whether literally or figuratively.

Gobelaar was an explorer from an early age, and even when he was meant to hunt for food (rats, roots, kilo-maggots, spelunkers etc.) he often lost his quarry due to being distracted by a new cave system, a strange valve, or a peculiar trail.
This made Grobelaar unpopular among the other mutants, as he would return with excruciatingly detailed accounts of his journeys, So his kith and kin connived to get rid of him, exploiting his inquisitive nature.
The elders began to feed Grobelaar stories about the world beyond the Underground. They told him of tall caves full of food, and of the ceiling which was blue and infinitely tall, They told him, in short, of the surface world. They insinuated, Grobelaar felt, that he wasn’t brave enough to explore this upper realm. Soon he was setting off for new horizons, and never looked back.
It was not a direct route, not with so many fascinating distractions. Grobelaar spent a season following the blind ghost carp to their pearlescent spawning grounds, a week as the slave of salamander-people, as well as many days playing pranks on a group of rookie civil engineers from Bastion.

When Grobelaar reached the world of blue ceilings, it was blinding. Even a slightly overcast day seared his eyeballs. Groping around for anything familiar, he found a succulent plant, and then a hand grasping for that same plant. It almost got ugly, but neither Grobelaar or Elkvan (to whom the hand belonged) were at their best. They decided to share, and perhaps wait for the upper hand.
The altercation never happened. It might be too soon to speak of romance, but the mutant and the soldier boy have a great mutual fascination with each other, and a tendency to build on each other's lofty plans and visions for the future.

For a horned, lacquer-skinned mutant with acid spit, Grobelaar looks fairly friendly. He is smiling, animated and very talkative. He can talk for ages about minutia he has observed along the way, and how said observations could become the basis of some glorious adventure or scheme. Right now he is with Elkvan and his plans of millinery or dragon-hunting. Grobelaar doesn't really have any qualms or morals, just people he likes and people he don't.
